Sustenance by Zakia Posey / go back to Fourth Issue

Statement by the Artist:
My name is Zakia Posey and I am a graduate student in anthropology currently researching the Oromo diaspora.  In addition to my academic pursuits, I also like to do graphic design work. The featured piece is entitled “Sustenance”.  Cattle are important to the Oromo people and are used in a variety of ways: for food and drink, as the raw material for traditional clothing, and as a means of trade.  I chose to highlight the nutritional aspect of these animals by showing a portion of a herd and the milk jug.
